“So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”-Chris Mccandless
I’ve always wanted to do it. Drive across the great U.S. that is. The Great American Road Trip. The freedom to just pick up and go with the only true destination of “west somewhere”. Sure I have an itinerary planned for my trip in May but who says I have to follow it? Reservations are merely fallback options for a goal of something much bigger. A trip to learn what’s out there. A trip to stand tall and breathe deep. To bask in the sun from the top of a cliff so high, that you could almost swear you could reach out and touch a cloud. Perfection. That is what I’m after. To immerse myself in surroundings so incredibly striking that sheer words cannot describe them. Vistas so amazing that words aren’t even needed and would only do them an injustice if I tried.
In only 4 short months, my journey across this great country begins and this blog is where I plan to chronicle the things I see, the people I meet, and the crazy things I stumble across along the way. Right now, it’s time to gear up, research more, and whip my lazy ass back in shape. The only problem right now is trying to concentrate on my day-to-day tasks, like my actual job.
